As per the announcement made by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the floor of assembly on 3rd April 2012, electricity tariff for house hold has been reduced as given below

Electricity consumers upto 100 unit per two months will have to pay only Re 1- (This has been reduced from 1.10ps to Re 1)

Consumers of electricity upto 200  units/ per two months will have to pay only Re 1.50 (Previously it was Re 1.80 ps)

Consumers of electricity upto 500 units/per two months will have to pay as follows:

first 200 units at the rate of Rs 2 (Previously it was Rs 3)

and 201 units to 500 units Rs 3 (reduced from Rs 3.50ps)

According to this press release about 1 crore and 50 lakh families will benefit from the above announcement.
