Miss Venezuela Eva Ekvall
Eva Ekvall who was crowned as Miss Venezuela in the year 2000 and later she was third runner up in the Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico died at the age of 28 due to breast cancer in a hospital in Houston. Her family members told Eva who was struggling with breast cancer was under medication. She has authored a book Fuera de Foco (Out of Focus) in which she has written about her struggle with cancer.
She was an actress and news anchor and was courageously fighting against cancer in an extraordinary calmness.
"I hate to see photos in which I come out ugly," Eva Ekvall told El Nacional. "But you know what? Nobody ever said cancer is pretty or that I should look like Miss Venezuela when I have cancer."
In February 2010, Ekvall was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, and underwent eight months of treatment that included chemotherapy, radiation and a mastectomy. She chronicled this experience in a book of photographs, Fuera de Foco (Out of Focus), released in 2011. After suffering from complications of her disease, she died on December 17, 2011 at 28 years of age in Houston, Texas. Her remains were cremated in Houston and taken to Venezuela for a formal ceremony on December 19, 2011. Her death brought an outpouring of condolences from Venezuelans, including from some prominent artists and politicians. Ekvall's husband posted a photo on Twitter Sunday showing a close-up of his hand holding hers, resting on a hospital bed, with the words "Always together ... I love you wife."
Ekvall married radio producer John Fabio Bermúdez in September 2007. The couple have one daughter, Miranda, born in July 2009.
