In general, the term applies to any magical act intended to cause harm or death to people or property.

Today this word Sorcery is being searched in the Google Trends section, because of a beheading of a woman who has been practicing Sorcery in Saudi Arabia.  According to leading media reports, the Interior Ministry of Saudi issued a statement that a woman was beheaded on 12th December, who was practicing magic and sorcery.

Moreover, the report says that she is the 76th person to be executed in the Saudi Arabia during this year.

According to the Free Dictionary, sorcery is defined as the art, practices, or spells of a person who is supposed to exercise supernatural powers through the aid of evil spirits; black magic; witchery.

A newspaper said a female investigator followed up, and the woman was arrested in April, 2009, and later convicted in a Saudi court.

It did not give the woman's name, but said she was in her 60s.

Amnesty International issued a statement expressing shock at the incident, noting that the woman was beheaded. Amnesty's interim Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme, Philip Luther, condemned the execution:

"The charges of 'witchcraft and sorcery' are not defined as crimes in Saudi Arabia and to use them to subject someone to the cruel and extreme penalty of execution is truly appalling."
