To mark the 125th birth anniversary of eminent mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh delivered the inaugural function speech at the University Centenary Auditorium and released commomerative stamp and first day cover.
Moreover, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared 2012 as National Mathematics year' in honour of maths genius Ramanujan's birthday.
Prime Minister mentioned that Ramanujan was one of the greatest mathematician of Tamil Nadu which produced two other eminent scientists. And he praised a lot about Tamil Nadu on this matter.
Prime Minister said “Along with CV Raman and Subramanyam Chandrashekhar (both Nobel laureates), he is among the three great men of science and mathematics that Tamil Nadu and India have given to the world of modern times”.
Further Singh said, “A genius like Ramanujan would shine bright even in the most adverse of circumstances, but we should be geared to encourage and nurture good talent which may not be of the same calibre as that of Ramanujan”.
