5 bank robbers were killed in a big encounter in Chennai in the early morning of 23rd February 2012 (between 3 and 4 am). The Chennai police has solved a very big mystery in the one month long wait. Police have recovered a lot of money from the house where the encounter took place. Christian Jeyaseeli and Ravi are the two Inspectors who were shot by the robbers and in turn the police shot dead the robbers in a suburban area of Chennai, Velachery.
The first bank decoity took place on January 23 and the second one took place on last Monday. All the dead were identified as North Indians. One of the robbers was a student of the famous SRM Engineering College, Chennai. The chief of the group was acting as an agent for SRM.
The Chennai police got the information of robbers staying in a house near Velachery and police surrounded the area and the decoits were staying in a three floor apartment.
Police who warned the robbers to surrender did not get any response and in turn the robbers threatened to shoot the local people. In this incident the police shot dead the robbers and the police is making deep enquiry on this and searching for more culprits.
Totally 34 lakhs was stolen in two bank robberies within a gap of two months. The dead belonged to West Bengal and Bihar states. They have brought rifles and bullets from Bihar.
The deceased robbers are Vinod Kumar, Chandri Khare, Vinay Prasad, Abhay Kumar, and Harish Kumar.
The injured Police Officers are being treated in Chennai Royapettah Hospital.
