Karnataka State Higher Education Minister Mr Acharya died all of a sudden while attending a government function at Bengaluru and he was 71 years. He collapsed on the dais and admitted in a local hospital where he was proclaimed dead. The function was organized by the Government Science College on Nrupathunga Road. As he was approaching the dais, he collapsed.

Acharya is survived by his wife, 4 sons and a daughter. Acharya was using wheel chair for the past three months to move around.
He already held the portfolios of Planning and Statisticvs, Information Technology and Biotechnology.
And he held the Home Minister portfolio in the BS Yeddyurappa ministry.
Born on July 6, 1940, he was with the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh and was President of the Udupi Municipality for about 8 years.

He was a native of Udupi and a physician by profession. His father was Katte Vyasa Acharya, a Sanskrit scholar.
